Dinant statement on cao audit of ifc investments in Ficohsa

Tegucigalpa, Honduras, August 11, 2014: Corporación Dinant is aware that the CAO today published its audit report of IFC’s investments in Banco Financiera Comercial Hondureña S.A. (Ficohsa). We look forward to studying the report in detail. As the CAO’s audit is necessarily focused on IFC’s management practices and not with Dinant’s relationship with Ficohsa, it is appropriate that IFC rather than Dinant comments on the conclusions of the report. Roger Pineda, spokesman for Dinant, said, “Corporación Dinant is making significant progress. We are implementing the criteria laid out in the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, which govern how we vet, recruit and train our security staff, and how they engage with members of the community. We are proud that we will be the first to adopt this initiative in Honduras and throughout the global agribusiness sector. The company recently removed all firearms from security staff at all of its plantation sites. We are fully implementing the principles of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) regarding the economic, environmental and social impact of our African Palm oil business. And we have improved our Community Engagement Program through such initiatives as stakeholder surveys and formal grievance mechanisms.” Dinant invites interested NGOs to visit its African Palm plantations in the Bajo Aguán region of Honduras to see for themselves the extensive resources that Dinant is investing in community engagement, and environmental and social management.
