Corporación Dinant and Cementos Argos sign an agreement to be allies in the responsible management of industrial plastic waste

Tuesday, October 14, 2019, Tegucigalpa, M.D.C DINANT Corporation and Cementos Argos, are two companies that actively seek the sustainability of their businesses and implement a social responsibility strategy that fosters the development of their communities, maintaining a strong commitment to the care of the environment. Within the framework of this strategy, companies have signed an agreement for the final disposal of post-industrial waste that is processed in some DINANT production processes and that currently, due to its characteristics, cannot be recycled; as being, the plastics used in vegetable crops in greenhouses and packaging plastics of food, oils and soaps plants. For its part, Cementos Argos has an Environmental License to co-process waste at the Piedras Azules cement factory in Comayagua. Coprocessing involves the complete destruction of waste by incorporating them into the cement manufacturing process, specifically in the cement kiln. This allows 100% use of the energy value of the waste, without altering the quality of the cement as the final product. This is a professionally implemented alternative in the cement industry worldwide and is backed by the international health and environment conventions of which Honduras is a part. This agreement establishes the technical, chemical and physical evaluation of the waste established to be approved and incorporated into coprocessing in the cement factory. These evaluation actions will be carried out within a maximum period of 12 months; At the end of this period, both parties will sign a definitive contract that will determine the scheme to follow for the coprocessing of the waste. With the signing of this agreement, the volume of waste that is currently sent to the landfill will be reduced, thus increasing its useful life and mitigating the environmental impact caused by waste management. In turn, this will contribute to maintaining production processes that help maintain adequate health conditions in neighboring communities as an immediate effect of the actions derived from this agreement. “At Cementos Argos we bet on the sustainability of our business, committed to the care of the environment and the quality of life of the communities around us. We will continue to be active in the search for strategic allies, such as Dinant, that allow us to reduce the impact on the environmental footprint in Honduras and in turn, become more efficient as a company, ”said Gustavo Uribe, General Director of Cementos Argos in Honduras. For his part, Roger Pineda, Director of Corporate Relations and Sustainability, said “Since its inception almost 60 years ago, Dinant has been a company committed to all the components of what is now known as Sustainability, the alliance with ARGOS, through which we will be ensuring the adequate final disposal of part of the waste generated in some of our production processes in our manufacturing plants, ensures continuity with our unwavering commitment to continue building a sustainable business, incorporating elements of great importance such as being respect for the environment, relationships with members of the communities that surround our operation sites and relevant projects framed within the framework of Corporate Social Responsibility ”.
